The Author to Come Soon (poem)

Date Posted: 2005-10-18

We read the story, every new day to come a new chapter in this eerily woven tale
the characters are so familiar, a touch of independence mixed with a longing for purpose
unaware of the fulfillment we provide for characters seeking the like
for many, a beginning and a beginnings end taunt from the dark corners we have created
This tale taking turns never purposed by the poet’s pen
the author to come soon

An innate knowledge of the paths taken by these characters created
and still choice is known by all and truth is abandoned frequently
unaware of the consequences of our actions in search of this truth that never left our side
and still the ending never ceases to suggest its pending arrival
and still our heroes and heroines ignore the cries of warning shouted from the pages
the author to come soon

The author to come soon, waiting for a moment when all know though some may not care
then the ending that taunts will reveal and revel in its successful rouse
a suggested arrival masked by suggested lack of existence
this evil ruins the characters between these covers, and yet
the author to come soon

For the pen held by the author is the only pen that can sign the ending
and the author knows that the end can be, if he desires, and he does, a new beginning
so the stage is set, and the curtains begin to close
and the lights go dark
the author to come soon

Yes, the curtains close, but the desires still call and echo through these pages
first one, then more, letters to the editor pour forth, a longing to find self still unanswered
our heroes and heroines do not retreat, and the author hears and the curtain is torn
a new act is opened with more days to usher in new chapters
the author to come soon

Hope shall not be lost, fear shall not gain, and characters begin to triumph
first one, then twelve, then more turn to embrace the truth beside them
the path becomes clearer and the story and the pace quickens
and the author to come soon waits still for the moment when all know though some may not care
the author to come soon
